If you are looking for a savoury and unique cake recipe, then you should try this easy cake recipe. Tavasali or Cucumber Cake is steamed or baked which makes it a healthy breakfast. You can also enjoy it as snacks. Kids and adults love its delicious flavours. It is very authentic dish in Goa and is made during shravan (Saavan) season commonly. It is also very simple to make. Just follow this step by step easy Goan Tavasali recipe and enjoy it with your friends and family

Step 1 Prepare the cucumber and coconut batter

To prepare this easy recipe, wash and peel the cucumber. Take a large bowl and finely grate the peeled cucumber in it. In a mixing bowl, add cucumber, Rava (semolina), Dalia, salt, crushed groundnut or peanut, grated coconut and jaggery. Mix well using your hands and now add cardamom powder and ghee. Mix once again and keep covered for 10 minutes.



Step 2 Boil water and grease the idli mould

Put a big vessel or idli cooker on medium flame and boil water in it. Keep the idli stand in the vessel and take care of the mould or flat vessel. Apply some ghee to coat the vessel and add the cucumber batter in the mould.



Step 3 Steam the cake for 20-30 minutes

Keep this mould in the boiling water on the stand to steam it. Cover it and steam for 20-30 minutes. In a big vessel or idli cooker, boil water and keep a stand in the vessel. After 20-30 minutes check by poking a knife if the cake is properly cooked. Once done, let it cool and cut into pieces.


Tips

You can also simply bake this cake in the oven for 40-45 minutes on 200 degrees Celsius if you don't have a steamer.

Don't add water to this recipe at any stage as it would impact the texture of the cake.
